Fall  2010 Classes

 

For Fall, we have welcomed Inna Voltchkova to our teaching staff and will be having classes for more advanced knitters in Russian Lace.  

 

Classes are still being added.   Please check our website or call the store for more information.  Private classes are available at a cost of $20/hour.

 

Russian Orenburg Knitted Lace and Traditions

 

Fuzzy Wuzzy Yarns is pleased to announce that Inna Voltchkova will be teaching a Workshop in the History of Russian Orenburg Knitted Lace and Traditions starting on Monday night, September 13, 2010 and continuing through Monday, October 25, 2010.  

 

Inna has had a number of her designs published in Piecework Magazine and also knits Orenburg Lace samples for Galina Khmelava, the author of Gossamer Webs: The History and Techniques of Orenburg Lace Shawls.

 

The class will be held every two weeks for four sessions, and the cost will be $80.00.  In addition to the history of these beautiful shawls, students will learn the Russian cast-on, basic elements of Russian Lace, how to do lace edges, borders and corners.  They will also learn chart reading and grafting lace.  These classes will be limited to six students.   Class meets every other Monday to give students time to work on their shawls.

Inna Voltchkova Cabled Hat

 

Inna will also be teaching a hat pattern of her own design that teaches both an interesting cable design and edging as well as knitting in the round and chart-reading.  Two two-hour classes - $45.

UPCOMING in OCTOBER---TURKISH OR AFTERTHOUGHT HEEL CLASS

 

Learn this special method of knitting your heel after you knit your sock!  Heel is knit separately after knitting the sock so that it can be replaced when it wears out.  Taught by Anna Sayles, an avid sock knitter who taught us a thing or two about knitting socks!  Students must come to class with their sock already knit but please ask how first --- you do not knit the heel!  One two-hour class - $45.

Special Workshop with Designer and Indie Dyer ,

 

Jen Hansen

 

Learn to make Jen's Carefree, a shawlette using garter stitch with a lace border.  Her sample is on display in our shop, and if you know how to do a yarn over, knit two together and an SSK, you can make this!  Participants will be using their choice of Jen's hand-dyed yarn that she's dyeing especially for this class.  Three two-hour classes - $90 (COST INCLUDES JEN'S YARN AND PATTERN).

Christmas Countdown!

 

Tired of hunting for the perfect gift in the stores each year?  Take your knitting skills and make gifts for family, friends, your kids' teachers, etc.  Each month beginning in June, we will work on a new small project suitable for gifting!  Most are one skein projects, and most will make multiple projects from that one skein!  Projects include:

Ten-Stitch Blanket

 

Knit this blanket in the yarn and needle size of your choice!  Blanket looks stunning in Noro, but you can also use stash yarns!  Blanket is worked in a spiral, joining as you go so NO seams!

Beginning Knitting

 

For beginners with no previous experience - Learn the basics of knitting from casting on to binding off.  4 classes - $70.  Maximum: 10 students

Refresher Knitting Class


For those with some knowledge of knitting who need a quick refresher course on the basics - cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, bind off. 1 one-hour class - $20

What’s New to You Knitting

 

For those who already know basic knitting skills and are ready for a project that’s more challenging.  Learn the skills to complete your chosen project, and be guided through it. 

  

4 classes - $70 plus materials for project.  Maximum - 10 students

Beginning Socks Class

 

Students need to know how to knit, purl and do k2tog and ssk decreases.  Class will cover knitting socks from the cuff down, how to cast on, get good fit and how to kitchener stitch.  3 classes - $65 plus supplies.  Maximum: 6 students.

Socks on Two Circulars

 

Students should have made socks on double-point needles before taking this class.  You can make the choice to learn on larger needles and worsted weight yarn or smaller needles and sock yarn.  2 classes - $60 plus supplies.

Cast-on & Bind Offs 

 

Explore different cast-on and bind off techniques that can really make your knitting projects stand out!  One two-hour class - $35.

Continental Knitting

 

Learn the tips and tricks of knitting the European way!  Maximum: 10 students.  One two and a half hour class- $50

Finishing Class

 

You've finally finished knitting your sweater!  Now learn how to sew it together so you can wear it!  Students should come with their sweater or project blocked and ready to be sewn together.  If you don't know how to block, ask when you sign up for the class.  If you don't have a project but still want to take the class, ask for pre-class homework.  One two-hour class - $40.

The Great American Afghan


This class will be taught in a series of blocks that use the same techniques rather than a block at a time.  Students will then have time to complete those blocks.  Class will meet once a month on Saturday mornings.  Two classes listed here.  $15 per class.

The Swirl Shawl


Come learn the techniques used to create this beautiful shawl - or do the scarf version if you want!  2 classes - $40 (pattern included in the class fee) plus yarn required for either the shawl or scarf.  This class is for intermediate to advanced knitters familiar with working on double point needles.

Beginner's Tunisian Crochet Class
 
Students must know crochet basic stitches - chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet to take this class.   In this 2-session class, students will learn the technique of simple tunisian crochet and complete a darling baby hat that resembles entrelac knitting.  Check out the 'oh so cute' sample prominently displayed in our store!
 
Materials: 5 different colors of Kraemer Perfection Worsted,  and a size H Tunisian hook.  Pattern included with the class.

Special Event:  Bead Crochet Workshop

 

with Gwen Blakley-Kinsler

 

Come learn this beautiful bead-crochet technique from Gwen Blakley-Kinsler, founder of the Crochet Guild of America, in this three-hour class, finish a gorgeous bangle bracelet with a focal bead, and you will be well on your way to the joys of bead crochet!  Students will be taught the basice of handling beads on thread and be given many tips and tricks to continue their journey into bead-crochet.  Many samples of the various applications of bead-crochet will be available in class.  $65 (includes pattern) plus supplies.  Class limited to ten students.

 

Prerequisites:   Students must know how to crochet and feel comfortable using a steel crochet hook and thread.  Student must purchase their materials prior to class day.  Please call or visit the store for the supply list and sources.

Cabled Scarf

 

If you've always wanted to learn cables, this is the class!  Make this cabled scarf from the fabulous Cascade 220 60 Quick Knits book!  Learn charted knitting, three types of cables and a wrapped stitch technique.  Students will need a copy of the book (which you will use again and again!) and supplies.  One two-hour class - $35.

Vintage Mittens

 

Learn to knit mittens in the round on double-pointed needles - no seam to sew up the side!  Pick an interesting yarn or do stripes to make them

Explore the exciting possibilities of bead knitting!  Learn about bead choices, proper yarn selections plus tips for stringing and efficient handling of beads while knitting.  One two-hour class - $35.

Techniques Mini-Sessions
 
If you need a little help with the following techniques, we are offering mini-sessions on Saturday, September 25, 2010 to help you advance your knitting skills.  Each session is a half-hour and costs $10.  Sessions start promptly and some require a little homework.  Since these sessions are short, please be prepared when you arrive.  These sessions are for beginners who know how to knit and purl.  PRE-REGISTRY FOR THESE CLASSES IS REQUIRED!

 

11:45 - 12:15 p.m.  INCREASES  

 

Still not quite sure how these work?  We'll show you three methods. Bring  your needles and scrap yarn with 20 stitches cast on and one inch of knitting.
 
12:30 - 1:00 p.m.       DECREASES

 

Are these Greek to you?  After this mini-session, they won't be!  Bring your needles and scrap yarn with 20 stitches cast on and one inch of knitting.


1:15 - 1:45 p.m.      FIXING DROPPED STITCHES

 

We'll show you how to get them back on your needles!  Bring your needles and scrap yarn with 20 stitches cast on and two inches of knitting.
 
2:00 - 2:30 p.m.         CABLES

 

Nothing to be afraid of!  Bring needles and scrap yarn with 18 stitches cast on and one inch of knitting.
 
2:45 - 3:15 p.m.      KNITTING IN THE ROUND 

 

Learn some basics, tips and tricks?  Bring 16"

circulars with scrap yarn and 50 stitches cast on.
